Japanese knotweed in Cornwall

Distribution

Since 1997 Cornwall Council has been colating data on the distribution of Japanese knotweed in Cornwall on behalf of the Cornwall Knotweed Forum to assist with co-ordinated control of the knotweed. This data has now been deposited with the Environmental Records Centre (ERCCIS) and the Council is no longer taking new reports. However there is a national plant recording system, 'Plant Tracker' (see below) which you can use to report knotweed and other invasive species.

Please note that treatment does not automatically follow reporting.

Cornwall Council will endeavour to control Japanese Knotweed where it is on Council property, within the highway verge or obstructing public rights of way. If you feel that there is knotweed on land managed by Cornwall Council that is not being treated and is adversely affecting your property please report it using the link below.

Report Japanese knotweed on Cornwall Council land

NB Cornwall Council has no powers to require others to treat Japanese knotweed.

The Environment Agency, the Nature Locator team at the University of Bristol and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology have joined forces to help combat the spread of the UK’s most problematic invasive, non-native plant species.

The PlantTracker app, available free from the iTunes App Store and Android Market, shows you how to identify each species and enables you to easily submit geo-located photos whenever you find one.  The app now features many invasive plant species and also includes a "Confusion Species" gallery for each one, to help you separate some of the similar looking plants you might encounter.

For more information and details of how to download the App please visit the Plant Tracker website.
