Housing Supplementary Planning Document

Good quality housing is vital. It is important that our housing market is appropriate to meet the needs of our communities, including the provision of a mix of housing to meet differing needs. 

Cornwall Council is committed to addressing this by ensuring a sustained supply of new homes is provided as required by the Cornwall Local Plan. Cornwall Council plays a considerable role in delivering affordable housing. This includes proactive investment and direct delivery programmes.

The adopted Cornwall Local Plan provides the overarching strategic policies for the provision of housing. The Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted by Cornwall Council in February 2020 and it provides additional guidance on how the policies in the Local Plan will be implemented. The SPD does not set new planning policy. The document provides guidance on the development of new homes including; affordable housing, self-build and specialist housing for the elderly or disabled.

The Adoption Statement sets out where and how copies of the document can be viewed. 

The Statement of Consultation contains details of the various stages of public consultation and sets out how the responses have informed the development of the SPD.

The consultation on the  schedule of changes to the final SPD closed on 2nd December 2019. The representations recieved were analysed by the Council and informed the adoption of the SPD by Cornwall Council's Cabinet in February 2020.

The consultation on the final Housing SPD closed on 6 May 2019 the consultation responses were analysed by the Council and informed the schedule of changes.  

The consultation on the draft Housing SPD closed on 30 November 2018. The representations were analysed by the Council and informed the final SPD.
