Cornwall Council is committed to addressing this by ensuring a sustained supply of new homes is provided. This is required by the Cornwall Local Plan. Cornwall Council plays a considerable role in delivering affordable housing. This includes proactive investment and direct delivery programmes.

The adopted Cornwall Local Plan provides the overarching strategic policies for the provision of housing. A Housing Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) has been drafted. This provides additional guidance on how the policies in the Local Plan will be implemented. The draft SPD does not set new planning policy. The document will provide guidance on the development of new homes including:

  • affordable
  • self-build and
  • specialist housing for the elderly and disabled

The consultation on the draft Housing SPD closed at 5pm on 30 November 2018. The representations are being analysed by the Council. The SPD will be amended where necessary. The Council will then adopt the SPD as guidance.
