Newquay Town Council agreed to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for the Newquay area. This was agreed at a Town Council Meeting held on 2 July 2014. This webpage provides you with information on the Newquay Neighbourhood Development Plan.

Newquay Neighbourhood Development plan is now formally made. This can be used from 8th May 2019 as part of the development plan in development management decisions in the Newquay Neighbourhood Plan Area. The adopted neighbourhood plan, report and decision notice is available to download below:

The Newquay NDP Referendum was held on 11 April 2019. The plan was successful and the result was:

  • Number cast in favour of a 'Yes': 93.3%
  • Number cast in favour of a 'No': 6.6%

The independent examiner appointed to undertake the examination of the plan was Deborah McCann. The examiner was sent the neighbourhood plan and supporting information on 20 July 2018. The final examination report was recieved on 6 November 2018. The examiner recommended that the plan meets the Basic Conditions subject to a number of modifications. The Council’s decision was to accept the proposed modifications and approve the Plan. Cornwall Council consulted residents and other interested stakeholders on the plan proposal for the Newquay Town area. The consultation ran from Monday 4 June to 16 July 2018.

The plan proposal included:

  • a copy of a map
  • a statement which identifies the area to which the proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan relates
  • a consultation statement
  • the proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan and
  • a statement explaining how the proposed Neighbourhood Development Plan meets the requirements of paragraph 8 of Schedule 4B to the 1990 Act (the Basic Conditions Statement)

Newquay Town Council submitted an application and map to designation their Neighbourhood Area. This was submitted on 28 July 2014. Cornwall Council consulted residents and other interested stakeholders on the designation. The consultation ran between 6 August and 17 September 2014. Copies of the application letter and statement were made available to view during the six week consultation period. The statement explains how the Town Council and Neighbourhood Area met the conditions of Section 61G(2) of the Town And Country Planning Act 1990.
