Environmental Growth Funding Boost

£27m is being invested in creating an environmental growth zone in mid Cornwall. Highways England has awarded £10m of Environment Designated Funds to improve the natural and historic environment across 50km2 of central Cornwall. The funding will deliver 17 projects in the catchments between Truro and Perranporth, Zelah and Chacewater. The projects include habitat creation, natural flood management, landscape and heritage enhancements.

In addition Highways England is contributing £17m to create 30km of new cycling, walking and riding trails connecting communities with each other, employment centres and services. Cornwall Council is leading delivery of the new paths and contributing an additional £2m.

The proposal is the result of a partnership working between Highways England, Cornwall Council, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Natural England, Historic England, Cornwall Catchment Partnership and local environmental organisations.
