Bristol Channel Approaches will protect Harbour Porpoise

Following a public consultation carried out in 2016 the ‘Bristol Channel Approaches’ candidate Special Area of Conservation (cSAC) has been approved by Government and has been entered on to the UK Government’s official register of inshore European sites.

The site spans the Bristol Channel between the northern coast of Cornwall into Carmarthen Bay in Wales.

Bristol Channel Approaches cSAC has been identified for the protection of harbour porpoise. 

Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Nature Partnership (CIOSLNP) Board Member Tom Hooper said: "It is fantastic to see one of the most important areas for harbour porpoise in the UK designated to protect harbour porpoise."

He added "This new SAC will provide greater protection for one of Cornwall’s most iconic marine species"
