Bristol Channel Approaches given full SAC status

The status of the Bristol Channel Approaches has been updated in the Register of European Sites in England to have full Special Area of Conservation (SAC) designation.

The site spans the Bristol Channel between the northern coast of Cornwall into Carmarthen Bay in Wales.

Bristol Channel Approaches SAC has been identified for the protection of harbour porpoise, is within the Celtic and Irish Seas (CIS) Management Unit, and encompasses Lundy Marine Conservation Zone.

This SAC covers an area of 5,850km2, which is over 6 times the size of the Dartmoor National Park, and supports a diversity of habitat types, from reefs to mudflats.
