In the work place

In The Workplace 950

Our offices, car parks, retail areas and industrial parks are ideal places for environmental growth.

We all know about recycling and energy efficiency measures but environmental growth means so much more! What about encouraging nature to thrive in our outside spaces? Previously barren places can be transformed into beautiful oases, alive with colour and buzzing with life, making for happier, healthier places to work.

If you'd like a copy of these activities to keep, you can download our Work Place Activity Cards here!

Here are some ways you can help;

Seek wildlife friendly grounds maintenance

This means allowing native plants to thrive, stopping the use of pesticides, and reducing mowing and strimming.

Plant a tree

Plant a tree and install microhabitats such as bird and bat boxes, bird feeders, log piles and insect hotels. Make sure walls and fences have small access holes to allow hedgehogs to pass through.

Create a pond

Even a small one will encourage wildlife and create a pocket of tranquillity at work.

Create a green wall

Have you heard of green walls? By attaching wires, trellis or a frame to an outside wall, you can encourage greenery, flowers and even vegetables to grow almost anywhere.

Dim or turn off security lighting

Ask your employers to dim or switch off security lighting. Artificial light can create no-go areas for wildlife, affecting bats, frogs, hedgehogs, birds and insects.
