Urban Buzz

Buglife’s Urban Buzz project is set to work with local communities to create wildflower-filled, buzzing hotspots for people and pollinators in St Austell, Truro, Falmouth and Wadebridge.

The project will do this by transforming unused urban spaces and areas of mown grass – the green equivalent of a barren desert to insects and wildlife - into colourful, vibrant wildflower habitats buzzing with life!

Buglife officer Laura Larkin said: “Urban Buzz works in public spaces to plant wildflower meadows and pollinator-friendly flower beds, fruit trees and bulbs and create bee hotels and bee banks.

“All this activity creates new habitats to help our precious pollinators.  We’ll work with four communities to create at least 10 new ‘buzzing hotspots’ in each location.”

Cornwall Urban Buzz is supported by the Biffa Award and The Eden Project, and is a partnership led by Buglife with Cornwall Council, Falmouth Town Council, St Austell Town Council, Truro City Council and Wadebridge Town Council.

In summer and autumn 2018, there will be bug hunts, bee hotel-making, seed sowing and flower planting events across all four towns and we are looking for community groups who want to take part.
