Reducing Fleet Vehicle Emissions

In early 2017, Cornwall Council received a grant from Defra and the Department for Transport 'Joint Air Quality Unit' (JAQU) to trial emission reduction technology on the Council and Cormac's vehicle fleet. The aim of the trial was to significantly reduce vehicle emissions to help improve air quality.

The technology trialled is known as an 'electrolyser'. The electrolyser generates hydrogen gas which mixes with fuel, via the vehicles air intake, to improve combustion. Two different types of electrolyser were included in the trial from Water Fuel Engineering and Cgon. The electolysers were trialled on ten vehicles, and all have undergone independant emission testing by Emissions Analytics to see how they impact on emissions and fuel consumption.

A copy of the final report including independant emission testing results, is available.  If you would like further information, please contact us using the details on this page.
