Get active out and about in the World Heritage Site in 2019

Cover of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site booklet, 'The Official Guide to the Cornwall and west Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site' The World Heritage Site Office released their Official Guide to the Cornwall & West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site in late 2018 hoping to encourage people to explore and enjoy the landscape.

Aimed to be enjoyed by those of all ages, with all levels of mining knowledge; the Official Guide has been created by the team to raise awareness and help to fund the ongoing conservation and protection of the UNESCO designated World Heritage Site. The Cornwall and West Devon World Heritage Site covers ten areas in two counties and is the largest industrial World Heritage Site in the UK. The Official Guide gives an overview of sites to see, attractions to visit and even where to stop for something to eat and drink in each area.

The book followed a truly local approach and even called on the skills of Cornish young person and passionate reader Amy Homes to give some feedback, she is credited in the book as proof-reader. Alongside historic and cultural background and beautiful photography of the landscape this guide is aimed to be a helpful and informative keepsake to anyone with a love of Cornwall’s mining heritage or Cornwall in general with the added bonus of funds raised from the book going towards supporting the conservation and protection of the landscape!

There are lots of organised events happening in the landscape hosted by our partners such as the National Trust and the Penwith Landscape Partnership where you can get active and help protect and support your local World Heritage Site. So grab your copy of the Official Guidebook and get out into the fresh country air to learn more and lend a helping hand.
