The Autism Spectrum Team

The Autism Spectrum Team during Covid-19

The Autism Spectrum Team is continuing to support young people with autism, their educational settings and their families where young people on roll at a school are being educated at home. All work is being undertaken remotely.

The team is continuing to accept new referrals and priority criteria still apply (see below). In relation to current open cases, professionals and carers should contact the advisor who is involved in the case. For more general enquiries there is a new Autism Advice Line for professionals.

The Autism Spectrum Team has written a number of new resources for parents and for professionals in response to the current situation which are available to download in our resources section.

Supporting young people with autism in Cornwall

Our well established team works with children and young people with a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition aged 4-16. Our vision is to shape positive futures for these young people and to inspire, challenge and advise our partners to find shared solutions.

The majority of the work undertaken by the Autism Spectrum Team in Cornwall promotes the inclusion of young people with Autism in an educational setting through work set in both the home and at school. Professionals within the Autism Spectrum Team will support multi agency working, promote a joint problem solving approach and promote interventions that are evidence based.

The Autism Spectrum Team (AST) consists of four Autism Advisers, a Specialist Practitioner, a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and five AST workers, and is line managed by a Senior Educational Psychologist.

While the Autism Spectrum Team has a county wide brief it is organised into three area teams; west, mid and east Cornwall to provide a more efficient service, each of which has access to a breadth of expertise.

Children’s Autism Strategy

Our vision is that Cornwall is a county committed to supporting children and young people with autistic spectrum conditions to achieve positive outcomes.

Children, young people and their families will be able to access services which meet their needs. Families will feel supported through the diagnostic pathway and will receive advice and signposting about the services which are available to them.
