CLO27 Outdoor learning leader award

Who is the course aimed at?

Practitioners with an interest in using the outdoors to enhance and enrich young people’s learning.

This continuing professional development opportunity qualifies staff from schools and other settings to take children’s learning out of doors to a range of environments, in particular to support personal and social development, improve physical and mental health and to enrich the delivery of the school curriculum especially literacy and numeracy.

  • Four day training programme
  • Action plan based on experience and training
  • Successful completion of logbook/portfolio
  • Half day assessment with your group of children in your outdoor environment
  • Safe management of outdoor learning
  • Using your school grounds / settings
  • Cross-curricular, numeracy, literacy and science
  • Personal and social development
  • Firelighting, bushcraft and campfire cooking
  • Consultant visit to your school / setting to advise on the development of your outdoor learning space
  • provide delegates with the confidence and competence to design and deliver high quality outdoor learning to young people in a variety of outdoor settings (non-remote).
    • Articulate the benefits of learning outside the classroom
    • Understand the legal context in which outdoor practitioners operate
    • Understand and implement the organisation’s  policies and procedures for outdoor learning
    • Understand and implement the principles of inclusion
    • Produce an appropriate plan for an outdoor learning experience
    • Produce a risk-benefit assessment for an outdoor learning activity
    • Produce emergency procedures for outdoor learning and educational visits
    • Deliver a safe, enjoyable and high quality outdoor learning experience
    • Understand and demonstrate the principles of effective leadership  in the outdoors
    • Demonstrate effective evaluation of outdoor learning , constantly seeking to improve practice

Successful completion of the training leads to nationally recognised accreditation through:

  • Outdoor education advisers panel – Educational visits leader
  • National water safety management programme level 1 - Water safety awareness

The assessment leads to the nationally recognised award of outdoor learning leader certificated through the Institute for Outdoor Learning.

Cost:  £400.00 (25% discount for 2nd delegate from the same school / establishment)
