CLO11 Coastal and countryside walking leader with camping endorsement assessment

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is intended for those leading groups in open countryside and on the coastal footpath and who wish to camp on recognised campsites in non-remote locations.  It is particularly useful for bronze D of E leaders.

Successful completion of this allows delegates to lead day walks in summer conditions in coastal or rural countryside locations and to manage groups camping on non-remote or recognised campsites.  'Summer conditions' are typically seen as fair weather days during the year, but it should be noted that even during summer conditions, a combination of cold winds, rain and low temperatures which have not been forecast, can be a hazard, for which the leader and party should be suitably prepared and equipped.

This is predominantly a practical course which will include leading a day walk and an overnight camp with tents on a serviced campsite.

Delegates will be expected to meet the required standard in the following:

  • Navigation in coastal and non-remote countryside
  • Route planning
  • Risk benefit assessment
  • Expedition leadership skills
  • Campcraft on non-remote campsites
  • Safe use of camping stoves
