CLO10 Coastal and countryside walking leader with camping endorsement training

Who is the course aimed at?

This two-day, two-night course is intended for those leading groups in open countryside and on the coastal footpath and who wish to camp on recognised campsites in non-remote locations.  It is particularly useful for bronze D of E leaders.  NB. This training is available without the camping endorsement.

This is the foundation level of the South West mountain and moorland leader training scheme (SWMMLTS) and provides an introductory level of knowledge, understanding and experience sufficient to lead groups safely and enjoyably in 'summer conditions' in coastal and rural countryside environments.

The course covers navigation, route planning, leader equipment and group equipment for walking and campsite camping, and effective management of groups when walking and camping.  At the end of the course delegates will be given an individual action plan to help in further development as a walking leader.  The course will include an overnight camp in tents on the second evening.  This is a mainly practical course and will include two day walks carrying leader and personal equipment.

  • Navigation in coastal and non-remote countryside
