Cycle Training

Cycle training is a great way of building confidence on a bike in a controlled environment. Whether you're learning to ride for the first time, developing your balance and control or enhancing your on-road skills there is a training scheme to suit your needs.

There are several cycle training schemes in Cornwall that run from pre-level 1 to level 3. Use the links below for more information.

Cyclewise is Cornwall's own volunteer-led school cycle training scheme for children aged 10 years old and above.  It teaches Levels 1 & 2 of the National Standard for Cycle Training with a mixture of on and off road training.

Cyclewise Juniors is a more relaxed, skills based short course for children aged 7 years old and above and is based in the playground.

The scheme is now managed by CORMAC Ltd.  Please go to the CORMAC Cyclewise page for further information on how to become a volunteer instructor or how to get a Cyclewise course running in your area.

  • If you are already a Cyclewise or Cyclewise Juniors Instructor email for access to the instructor's area for your downloadable resources.

Bikeability is a cycle training scheme for people of all ages. Bikeability is available for schools around the county; this training is organised by the School Sports Network for each area.

Use our map of school sports network areas to find out which area each Network covers. Please note that the map is an approximate diagram.

If you would like to find out more about School Sports Networks, including which area your local school is covered by, visit the Bikeability website  for further information.

Go Ride is a cycling programme for young people run by the governing body of the sport, British Cycling. British Cycling coaches run a range of off road cycling activities for under 18's of all abilities. The activities include games which teach cycling skills and also introduces young people to cycling disciplines such as mountain biking, BMX and track riding.

Cornwall Council does not currently offer adult cycle training, however if you would like to receive  training to improve your confidence and skills on the road, please get in touch with a local Bikeability instructor to discuss your requirements.  Please visit the Bikeability website or the Cyclist Touring Club (CTC) website to find your nearest instructors .
