Organisations, community groups and residents are invited to a webinar on Tuesday 16 March to find out about ‘Back the Future’ - a scheme to get new initiatives and projects off the ground that can support the response to the climate emergency.
‘Back the Future’ is a new fund that will collect donations from businesses and individuals wanting to support local solutions to climate change. Contributors could include anyone who visits or lives in Cornwall through to large or small organisations. Donations can be made into the general Back the Future Fund or to specific types of projects.
Local organisations and community groups will be able to register as beneficiaries to receive these funds, through the Crowdfunder platform, to get new initiatives, such as renewable energy, rewilding and low carbon transport projects off the ground that can support Cornwall’s decarbonisation targets.
Tuesday’s webinar, 12-1.30pm, will inspire organisations and residents to learn how they can be part of the new scheme, and how crowdfunding can unlock opportunities to respond to the climate emergency.
Cllr Edwina Hannaford, Cornwall Council Portfolio Holder for Climate Change, will introduce the event and the achievements and ambitions of the Carbon Neutral Cornwall programme.
Other speakers will include Carolyn Cadman, Chief Executive of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, representatives from Crowdfunder and residents who have recently run successful crowdfunding campaigns.
Cllr Edwina Hannaford, who will officially open the fund for donations, said: “We have made great strides towards our aim for carbon neutrality by 2030, and we need to continue that momentum and enthusiasm. This exciting scheme represents an opportunity for the residents and organisations of Cornwall, as well as our many visitors, to come together and support the new ideas and projects that will help us shape a better future for one and all.”
Dawn Bebe, Director of Communications for Crowdfunder, said "We're delighted to be partnering with Cornwall Council to deliver a unique Crowdfunder public donation fund for projects that aim to tackle climate change. There are lots of innovative projects in Cornwall aiming to protect its stunning natural environment and this is a pioneering way for people who love visiting Cornwall to contribute to supporting it. We believe our Back the Future Fund to be a first - and something we hope will inspire other parts of the UK to follow."
A recording of the webinar will be available to watch on The Carbon Neutral Cornwall Hive after the event.
