A number of changes to parish and town council boundaries have been approved at an Extraordinary meeting of the full Cornwall Council.
The meeting was the culmination of a process which began back in 2019, and had seen some decisions delayed following the pandemic.
The changes before the council on Tuesday (January 31), made to better reflect the communities served by the town and parish councils, include alterations to ward layouts in Hayle and changes to the boundary between Liskeard and Menheniot.
The full list of recommendations from the Community Governance Review panel, which were produced following a detailed public consultation and discussions with all local authorities, can be found here.
The meeting, held at County Hall in Truro, also saw councillors accept a recommendation by the Independent Remuneration Panel to increase allowances by four per cent per year for the next two years. It is the first time the council has increased allowances since 2017.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Linda Taylor, leader of Cornwall Council, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in the Community Governance Review for their hard work and diligence in bringing this to a conclusion.
“Making sure local government reflects the communities it is supposed to represent is essential, but it is a complicated task.
“This review has been carried out in a professional and diligent manner, and all of those who have taken part can feel proud of the role they have played.”
