We have already achieved £300m savings since 2009 and now face the challenge of finding another £75m by April 2021.

With such a huge challenge, we face the unenviable task of having to decide how to deliver services with less budget, which involves doing things differently and making changes in how we work.

One of the areas in the previous round of budget savings was the phased reduction and removal of the grant to Citizens Advice Cornwall in 2017/18.

This grant has helped to provide an advice, information and general advocacy service to Cornish communities. It has also provided additional funding to help Citizens Advice Cornwall bid to provide for central Government service including the Money and Debt Advice Services and Pension Wise which brings in additional expert skills and capacity to help those in need.

We all recognise that austerity continues to have a large impact on our community especially the vulnerable. Combine this with the full introduction of Universal Credit across Cornwall in December 2017, changes to other benefit payments regulations and Brexit; the need for accurate advice and information continues and increases further.

With this in mind, the Cornwall Council cabinet are proposing to Members to put back some of the grant funding that has been removed. This will amount to a grant £153,000 per annum for the next three years.

We would like to know your views on how the Council helps fund Citizens Advice Cornwall (CAC) now and in the future.

The survey is being carried out to gauge how and when residents use CAC and the impact their service has had on them.
