The Council offers regulatory business support services to companies across Cornwall through the single point of contact Business Regulatory Support Hub.

It works across regulatory service providers including trading standards, environmental health, fire, planning, health and safety and well-being, environment and building control.

Last year a total of 1,852 businesses across Cornwall contacted the Hub, representing a 10% increase from 2017.

Out of those, 94% of businesses then received free sign posting and advice and a further 43% went on to buy a paid-for service.

In 2018 the Hub proactively contacted 2,550 businesses and 850 of these were new businesses.

Results from customer satisfaction surveys show that 100% of businesses that contacted the Hub were either satisfied or very satisfied.

Rob Nolan, Cornwall’s Cabinet Member for the environment and public protection, said: “The Regulatory Excellence Awards are national awards given by the Government so this is a fabulous accolade for our business regulations support services which have been officially recognised as the best in the country.

“This award was due to the continued support we give to businesses through our single point of contact and in recognition of how we are constantly striving to simplify business regulation for them.

“It’s a great achievement and group effort and reflects so much hard work from the whole team.”

Graham Russell, Chief Executive of OPSS, said Cornwall Council stood out as the best local authority in the country for business regulation support.

He said: “This award is well deserved, and in recognition of the work that Cornwall Council has done over the last few years to support businesses by providing a single point of contact with their regulatory requirements.”
