Bulk buy in advance and save money on parking by using the JustPark app

Residents and commuters who regularly park in selected long-stay Cornwall Council car parks can benefit from reduced rates for regular use by using the JustPark app to bulk buy JustPark multi-use tickets to pay for parking sessions.

The JustPark app is a user-friendly, cashless payment system available on most smartphones.  Residents can download the JustPark app, set up and load a minimum of £48 on your account, then use it to pay for parking in a specific car park, or within a specific geographical area, at a heavily discounted rate.

For example, if you use your pre-loaded JustPark account in a Truro long stay car park, you’ll be able to park at the reduced rate of a season ticket so a 24 hour parking sessions costs as little as £2.26.  If you’ve set up Wherrytown car park in Penzance as your selected car park, a 24 hour parking session will cost 99p – a significant saving of over £7.50 on the usual cost.  If you choose Wharf car park in Bude as your selected car park, a 24 hour session paid for using your JustPark multi purchase account will cost £1.06 rather than £5.20.

It’s especially cost effective if you use long-stay Cornwall Council car parks on a regular basis but you are one of those people who don’t park in your selected car park every day.  By bulk buying you only pay for the days you need to park.

Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for transport Geoff Brown explains:  “We want to give our residents the opportunities to get the best deals when they regularly park in one of our long stay car parks.  As part of our moves to improve parking as we roll out the Council’s Positive Parking framework, we want to make the best use of innovation and technology.  JustPark multi use tickets can be bought and then used in one of our 120 long stay car parks.  It offers a convenient and hassle-free way for drivers to pay for parking as well as offering great value for money when you bulk buy.”

People who pay for parking via the ‘JustPark’ app can also extend their stay in the car park.  The app sends a reminder and gives the option to extend which encourages people to stay longer as they don’t have to rush back to their car when their car parking ticket is running out.

Geoff adds:  “If you don’t have a smartphone, you can still buy a one, three, six month or annual season ticket which also offer great value for money.”

The money generated from car parking charges helps fund car park maintenance and our roads – if we didn’t have income from car parks we would have to increase council tax to generate the same amount of funding to help maintain Cornwall's 7,300km road network.
