About Cornwall Record Office

Please note: Cornwall Record Office is now permanently closed to enable staff to prepare for the move to Kresen Kernow in 2019. Further information is available on our Kresen Kernow project page or please contact us for more information. Although personal visits to view the collections are not possible during this time, our enquiries, copies and research services are still operating, depending on collection availability.

Cornwall Record Office (CRO) was established in 1951 and cares for the largest archive collection in Cornwall, with secure strongrooms holding over four miles of records, dating from the 12th century to the present day.

A team of archivists, archive assistants, learning officers and admin staff catalogue and preserve our documents in order to make them available for researchers to use. We have many thousands of visits and enquiries each year, and also engage hundreds more people through our learning programme.
