We have some safety tips for you to keep in mind during each season of the year.
Spring
After a long Winter the Spring months arrive and this is a great time to start your Spring cleaning routine. There are steps you can take in the Spring to protect your home from fire.
- Test your smoke alarm once a week, ideally as part of a regular job like putting your bins out, as this will help remind you to do it.
- You can check your smoke alarm by pressing the 'test' button.
- Dust or clean your smoke alarm to make sure the sensors stay clear from dust. You can do this by vacuuming the alarm with a soft brush attachment.
Summer
During the warmer months, you can prevent fires by keeping some important safety tips in mind and being aware of the following dangers:
- Barbecues
- Bin fires
- Boat Safety
- Bonfires
- Caravans and Camping
- Carbon Monoxide (CO)
- Firework Safety
- Flying Lanterns
- Holiday Advice

Autumn
This time of year is the perfect opportunity to prepare yourself for the winter. Follow the steps below to make sure you and your family remain safe:
- If you use an open fire, now is a good time of year to get your chimney swept in time for the winter. The winter is the busiest time of year for chimney sweeps. Beat the rush by getting yours done in the Autumn.
- If you use an electric blanket, think about getting it checked during the autumn. Sometimes damage can be caused to wiring while they are folded up over the summer so it's important you make sure yours is checked before you use it.
- Take steps to ensure you are prepared for heating your home during the winter months. Taking steps to improve energy efficiency in your home will mean you are less reliant on electric heaters.
