They attend incidents involving persons in or near water. Locations include rivers and lakes etc. They are also dispatched to incidents involving persons trapped in mud. These vehicles carry a variety of equipment. This is needed to create the safest possible working environment for the rescue of a casualty.

Some of the equipment carried include:

  • Inflatable Inland Rescue Boat
  • Personable Floatation Devices
  • Mud Rescue Paths
  • Inflatable Rescue Sledge
  • Hose Inflation Equipment
  • Throw Lines
  • Mud and sand lance
  • Wading Depth Poles

This equipment is spread across 2 Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 vehicles. These turn out to incidents in pairs. This is due to the amount of specialised equipment needed to carry out a rescue.

WRUs are also fitted with a front mounted winch which can be used for stabilization purposes.
