Operational Support Vehicles

Cornwall has 2 Operational Support Vehicles (OSVs). They are based at St. Austell and Falmouth Community Fire Station. 4 specially trained wholetime and on-call firefighters operate these vehicles.

The OSV attends all fires with 4 or more Pumping Appliances in attendance. The OSV's primary role is to act as a main control point for breathing apparatus functions at a fire ground. For larger incidents the OSV may act as the main breathing apparatus (BA) control point.

The OSV also carries equipment enabling firefighters to service BA sets on scene. This ensures a quick turnaround to enable firefighting operations to continue. The OSV also carries a range of tools to deal with salvage operations at incidents. Some of the equipment carried on the OSV includes:

  • 9 Spare BA cylinders
  • BA main control board
  • 110V generator and lighting sets
  • BA servicing Kits
  • Salvage sheets
  • Large polythene bags
  • Small tools
