Emergencies in South East Cornwall

Cornwall Council is pleased to advise that a free Warning and Informing Service has been introduced for residents and businesses in South East Cornwall who are close to Devonport Dockyard or Defence Munitions.

The operators of these sites must pass you information if there is an accident or emergency which may affect you. Previously this information was likely to be broadcast through the local media - radio and television. However, new technology means that it is now possible to pass this information to your mobile phone (by voice or SMS text message) and landline.

Cornwall Council and Plymouth City Council have worked together with the site operators to bring in this system to warn you of an accident that might affect you. It will advise you of the actions to take to keep your family or co-workers safe, and will also let you know when the all-clear is given.

Whilst major accidents or emergencies associated with these types of site are extremely rare (there have been none in the Plymouth and South East Cornwall area) we would encourage you to register for this free service.

You can also register to receive alerts if you have a family member or friend who lives in one of the Public Information Zones and you want to be able to help them if something happens.
