We currently have one cadet group at Saltash Community Fire Station.

The philosophy underpinning the Fire Cadets is...

"...to offer individual young people...opportunities of various kinds, complimentary to those at home, formal education and work, to discover and develop their personal resources of body, mind and spirit and thus better equip themselves to live the life of mature, creative and responsible members of a free society." (Sir John Redcliffe Maud, 1951)

At the same time however, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) strives to:

  • Assist individuals in their mental and physical development while promoting:
    • self discipline
    • social consciousness
    • community awareness
  • Prepare young people for roles and responsibilities
  • Provide young people with the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes that will enable them to perform their role effectively, competently and safely
  • Provide opportunities to assist and encourage continuous development
  • Foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership
  • Increase awareness of Community Fire Safety
  • Develop awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace

The cadets take part in many activities including fire drills appropriate to their age and experience.

The running cost of the scheme is supported by each branch via fund raising and sponsorship. Much of the funds are raised through the local community and local businesses, with all instructors, both uniformed and non- uniformed members of CFRS, giving their time freely.
