Are any of your ingredients/raw materials of Cornish origin or purchased from Cornish businesses? (maximum score 4)

  • More than half of the ingredients/raw materials are either of Cornish origin or Cornish made (score 4)
  • More than half of the ingredients/raw materials are purchased from Cornish businesses but not of Cornish origin/made in Cornwall (score 2)
  • A few ingredients/raw materials are purchased from Cornish businesses but not of Cornish origin/made in Cornwall (score 1)

How much are the ingredients/raw materials changed to make the new product? (maximum score 6)

  • Not at all, they could be recovered and used again (score 1)
  • They are physically changed, cut or shaped; or mixed with other material so that they are not recoverable in their original form (score 4)
  • They are fundamentally chemically changed e.g. by heating (score 6)

How long would it take you to teach someone new to make the product?

  • Not very long; they could make a sellable product on their first day (score 1)
  • A few days; they would be productive within the first week or so (score 2)
  • They would need extensive training: weeks, months or more (score 3)

To see if you are likely to qualify for ‘Made in Cornwall’ membership, calculate your score by adding the figures above. If you have scored less than 6 it is unlikely that you will qualify. If you have scored between 6 and 8 it is possible that you may qualify upon formal assessment. If you score more than 8 it is very likely that you will pass this stage of the assessment.

Membership still requires confirmation that you comply with any legal requirements applicable to both the product and to the way in which it is sold. This, along with the information provided on the application form, will be verified by an officer when he/she visits.

if you would like to apply for membership now that you've completed the self-assessment, please return to our Join the Made in Cornwall Scheme webpage.
