The South West has kicked off the 2018 LABC Building Excellence Awards season, and this year's winners and highly commendeds were announced at an event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Plymouth on Friday 20 April 2018.

Over 350 people, including representatives from all corners of the construction industry, along with the region's local council building control professionals, attended the event hosted by LABC's Business Development Director Anna Thompson.

The awards recognise fantastically made buildings from a technical and construction point of view - they are not necessarily given to the "prettiest" building, although some of our finalists' buildings are very handsome indeed. We appreciate the technical challenges construction and design teams face and these awards celebrate how they've faced up to and overcome them thanks to effective collaborative working.

Representatives of LABC sponsors Abbey Pynford, Actis, FMB, Home&Build, Jewson, LABC Acoustics, LABC Warranty, Planning Portal, Polypipe Terrain and Swiftclean presented trophies and certificates to the 15 winning and 8 highly commended projects and individuals. The winners automatically go into the Grand Finals, which will be held on Friday 9 November at the Westminster Park Plaza in London.

LABC's Chief Executive Paul Everall said, "The awards are an opportunity for us to celebrate some of the very best in construction in England and Wales, recognising the high level of quality and skill we can and do reach in the UK."

More than £5000 was raised for LABC President Chris Griffith-Jones' chosen charity, the Oracle Cancer Trust.
