Union Corner junction lies on Union Road, the key link between the A39 and the principal industrial estates and the west of the town.  The junction is a double mini-roundabout which regularly experiences queues of over 50 vehicles, constraining the delivery of new housing and employment and restricting current access.

Following a successful bid to the Department of Transport for Local Pinch Point Fund, the Secretary of State for Transport announced on 31 May 2013 that the Council’s application for funding through Tranche 3 of the Local Pinch Point Fund had been successful.

The current Union Corner junction has been replaced with a single, larger roundabout, improving capacity.

This scheme was completed and opened to the public in November 2015.
