Local Transport Plan

As a result of the Transport Act 2000, Local Authorities are required to produce Local Transport Plans to identify local transport policies and outline their programme of local transport improvements.

Cornwall's second Local Transport Plan (LTP2) has now been prepared and covers the period between 2006 - 2011.  It sets out a comprehensive plan for all types of transport in Cornwall.  The document has been set out in a format that illustrates how actions and delivery on the ground will contribute to the Government's 'shared' priorities.  These priorities have been supplemented to reflect a Cornish context and are as follows:

  • addressing regeneration and congestion
  • improving local safety
  • improving accessibility
  • improving air quality
  • addressing highway maintenance and asset management

It includes an explanation of how transport services will be provided and the document is used by the Government in the process of determining financial allocation for transport.  In July 2005, we submitted a provisional LTP2 to Government that was assessed as being 'very promising'.  Government feedback in the settlement letter (dated December 2005), the confirmed funding levels, and public and stakeholder consultation have all helped to shape this final document.
