Residential Care for Children in Care
Introduction to the Residential Service
The Residential Service is overseen by the County Service Manager, Tony Phillips-Jones Telephone: 01208 265731.
The service comprises of four children's homes.
East of the County Homes
- Kensey Children's Home
Manager: Tina Sadler
West of the County Homes
- Thornton House Children's Home
Manager: Deborah Burtenshaw
- Homefield Children's Home
Manager: Mark Jarvill
The homes vary in size up to a maximum of 4 placements.
At times a foster home is not suitable for some children and young people who are unable to remain living at home. This can be for a variety of reasons and a team of care workers who are not in the traditional parenting role may be more able to meet the child or young person's needs. Some have more complex needs and may require intensive support. Children and young people do tend to move from residential care back to a family environment, either home or foster care. Some older children and young people may move on into their own accommodation with support from the Leaving Care Service.
Regulation and Inspection
All services providing accommodation for children and young people in care are subject to statutory inspection and must comply with the relevant National Minimum Standards, Care Standards Act 2000.
All our Residential Children's Homes are inspected by Ofsted and are subject to a minimum of two annual inspections.
