Hens An Jynjyow (Hayle to Truro)
From the remains of the old foundries in Hayle to the engine houses scattered throughout the landscape, the reminders of Cornwall's industrial heritage are everywhere along this trail.
Description of the trail
The total length of the Engine House trail is 24 miles (38.7km).
Starting from Hayle
Leaving the golden sands of Hayle behind, it follows quiet minor roads to Camborne before utilising an existing and largely traffic-free route (part of the Mineral Tramways Project) along the base of the ancient monument of Carn Brea to Redruth. This whole area was once the thriving centre of the most intensively mined region anywhere in England. Hundreds of silent, engine houses, linked by disused paths and tramways, still haunt the landscape. Leaving Redruth, the trail passes through the old mining village of Carharrack before joining more old tramway routes to Bissoe as it makes its way to the bustling cathedral city of Truro.

There are a number of ways that you can get to the Engine House trail.
Rail: you can catch the train to Hayle train station, Camborne train station, Redruth train station or Truro train station which are on the mainline.
How to get there
The trail is signposted from each station but for more detailed directions please see below:
- From Hayle station - Turn right out of the station and go down Station Hill. After about 100m, at the junction with the B3301, Penpol Terrace, turn right under the viaduct to head east towards Camborne, or left to follow the First and Last Trail west towards Penzance.
- From Camborne station - Exit the station onto Trevu Road. Turn left to follow the route westwards towards Hayle, or right to go in an easterly direction towards Redruth.
- From Redruth station - Turn left out of the station and follow the road for about 150m to where the trail crosses Bond Street. Turn right down Treruffe Hill to follow the route towards Camborne, or right up Heanton Terrace towards Truro.
- From Truro station - Turn left out of the station down Richmond Hill. After about 150m turn right onto Bosvigo Road. At the end of Bosvigo Road turn right up Chapel Hill to follow the route towards Redruth via Bissoe, or left along Kenwyn Street to follow the route towards Redruth via Playing Place and Carnon Downs, or to pick up either the St Piran Trail north towards Newquay, or the Coast and Clay Trail towards St Austell via the King Harry Ferry.
