Admission arrangements 2016/17

Cornwall Council co-ordinates admissions to all state-funded schools in Cornwall.  The following co-ordinated schemes set out how applications from parents living in Cornwall will be handled relating to entry to infant, primary, junior and secondary schools in September 2016 and throughout the 2016/17 school year, including where parents live in Cornwall but wish to apply for a school in another local authority's area - this includes KS4 schools in another county.

In line with the School Admissions Code 2014, Cornwall Council is required to set the oversubscription criteria for community and voluntary-controlled schools, for which it is the admission authority.  This document sets out how places will be allocated when there are more applications than places available.  All other schools (i.e. academies, free schools, foundation schools, trust schools and voluntary-aided schools) are responsible for setting and publishing their own oversubscription criteria as the academy trust or governing body are the admission authority for the school.  The arrangements for these schools will be added to this page as they become available but will also be available direct from those schools or on their website from 15 April 2015.

Cornwall Council's oversubscription criteria for community and voluntary-controlled schools and published admission numbers for 2016/17 are as follows:

Service Families

Cornwall Council acknowledges that service families may be disadvantaged when applying for a school place as they are more likely to need to apply outside the normal admissions round when schools may already be full or be unable to provide a specific address ahead of a posting in good time for the relevant admissions processes.

There are certain legislative provisions for the admission of children of service families and processes within the LA which seek to address the disadvantage that might be experienced by service families.  These are described in the Local Authority's Protocol document along with signposting to sources of support and further information.
