Safeguarding on off site visits with 'Visit Adviser’

An exciting and innovative opportunity for those of you and your colleagues who own an iphone.  Cornwall Learning has developed an app called Visit Adviser which creates a planner customised to your upcoming visit.

The app takes a few minutes to lead you through a series of questions related to your visit. It then creates a PDF which is an aide-memoire to your planning.  This is then available on your phone and can also be emailed to you, or air printed if you have that facility.

It also generates a final week set of checks pushed daily to your calendar to make sure the essential safety elements are covered.  If you work with trainees or New Teachers, please direct them to this app to help them plan their first school trips safely.

As far as we know this is the first app of this kind developed in the UK.  It is available to download from the Apple app store free of charge on your iphone.  Just search for ‘Visit Adviser’

We hope you will find it useful, ensuring visits are safe:  if you do, please leave a review at the app store.

Pupils enjoy 'amazing' week of outdoor activities

Illogan School visit to Porthpean Outdoor Centre

Pupils from Class 6W at Illogan School began the new term with an 'amazing' team-building week at Porthpean outdoor education centre.

Thirty children from Illogan School had an 'amazing' team-building week at Porthpean outdoor education centre.

The Class 6W trip was led by teacher Julie Webber, supported by teaching assistant Jackie Gainey and learning mentor Tania Blakemore.

Activities included canoeing and sailing at Fowey, high ropes, climbing, archery and mountain biking.

The children also spent a day on the beach exploring the coastline and kayaking.

Mrs Webber said: "The children really pushed themselves and were most enthusiastic. When choosing a word to describe the week, the class said it was 'amazing'."

The camp is a centre of excellence for outdoor pursuits and is part of Cornwall Council's Learning Outdoors education scheme.
