"Effective action to benefit nature, people and the economy locally, happens when the right people come together in partnership…"  Defra, June 2011.

Welcome to Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Environment Partnership’s webpage.

The Cornwall and Scilly Environment Partnership (CIOSEP) is an emerging Partnership of those who are working to maintain the special and unique environment of Cornwall. The Government’s Natural Environment White Paper, The Natural Choice: Securing the value of Nature , has tasked local nature partnerships with enabling joined-up action for the environment at a local, yet strategic level. Their key aim is to achieve the most beneficial outcomes for the environment by enabling cross-working between complementary organisations, in a way that is suited to particular local characteristics and circumstances.

An Initiation Board was established to bring the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Partnership into being, this Board has been supported by Land Use Consultants, consultants funded by Defra, to build local capacity; the result was a successful proposal for Local Nature Partnership status, which received a Ministerial letter of approval in September 2012.

The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Environment Partnership will be considering the environment in its broadest sense and drawing expertise from a wide range of sectors, including the environment, health and wellbeing, education, and the economy.  The Partnership has already begun forging strong links with the economic sector, via the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnerships (CISLEP) and the two Health and Wellbeing Boards in the area.

A detailed stakeholder engagement process was undertaken by LUC,  to help inform the principles and priorities that the Environment Partnership will work with. This process also resulted in the production of a draft Environment Prospectus for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, as well as an Organisational Report that outlined the intitial work programme.

The Environment Partnership has the following working principles:

  • Strategic
  • Engaging and influential;
  • A provider of an integrated and consistent environmental voice;
  • A champion and advocate for the environment;
  • A partnership that promotes strong links with the local economy;
  • Ability to influence different sectors at different levels;
  • An enabler for delivery;
  • Linking to national policy and initiatives;
  • Drawing down funds;
  • Supporting the ‘do-ers’;
  • Promoting good work and achievements;
  • Creating a sense of belonging; and
  • Setting the direction of travel.

The five key priorities have been identified during the creation of the Partnership; these are detailed below.

The Environment Partnership has these key priorities:
