Following a successful first year for the Lands End 100 cyclosportive next year's event takes place on 14 October 2012.   The event is managed and run by Carrick Leisure in partnership with One and All Cycling Club.

Route information

As well as the existing 100 mile and 100km routes we are introducing a short ride option of 65km for 2012.

The Lands End 100 route options are:

100 mile route

The riders will ride the coast road around West Cornwall taking in the most Westerly point (Lands End) and Southerly point (Lizard Peninsula) in the British Isles, before heading back to the North coast between Portreath and Hayle and return through Carbis Bay to St Ives.

100 km route

This is a similar route to above. It will follow the coast road to Lands End and part the way to Lizard Point, at which point it will split away from the 100 mile route and will cut across country to join the North coast between Portreath and Hayle and then join the 100 mile route again and return through Carbis Bay to St Ives.

65 km route

This starts the same as the 100km route following the coast road to Lands End then in to Penzance.  From Penzance this route will split from the other two and follow the road through Gulval and in to Canonstown and joining the same road you cycled out on to return to St Ives Leisure Centre.

Points of Interest on the Routes

The Lizard - This is the most southerly point of mainland Britain.  The peninsula has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and here you can find 15 of Britain's rarest plants.

Lands End - This is the most westerley point of mainland Britain and is famous for it's unique location and stunning scenery.

St Michaels Mount - Just off the coast of Marazion the Mount is home to the St Aubyn family.  It was here in 1588 that the first beacon was lit to warn of the arrival of the Spanish Armada.

St Just Mining District - This has been designated a World Heritage site for it's mining history.  Engine houses can be seen perched on the cliff tops along the coast line.

Cape Cornwall -  This unique Cape is the only one in the UK and has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

By directing riders around the coast of West Cornwall with the spectacular coastal and countryside scenery and taking in the most Westerly and Southerly points in the British Isles it is hoped that the route will form the basis of a highly popular sportive.

The event starts and finishes at St Ives Leisure Centre
