 Chairs to sit on

The Council provides a bulky waste collection service for residents which covers items that are too large to be picked up at the kerbside by refuse or recycling collections, or that people cannot transport to the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) themselves.

Standard bulky waste items collected

Please view our list of standard items collected by the bulky waste service.  This is a chargeable service which is charged as follows:

  • Up to four items - £18.00 total
  • Additional items - £7.75 each (maximum of four)
  • Maximum total collection cost is £49.00 for eight items

To arrange and pay for a collection please call 0300 1234 141.

A request for more than eight items requires a separate booking, which has the £18.00 standard fee applied again. There are no concessions on these fees.

Bulky waste items requiring a special collection

Some items require a special collection and are not collected as standard.  Please view the special small bulky waste items and special large bulky waste items lists for information on those items that require a special collection, and for more information on item sizes.

Charges for special items are;

  • For a large item - £31
  • For a small item - £18.50

To arrange and pay for a collection please call 0300 1234 141.

Items that cannot be collected

Some items will not be accepted. Please follow the link to find out what bulky waste items are not collected.

For items not on either list please contact us on 0300 1234 141 or email: refuseandrecycling@cornwall.gov.uk

Leaving your bulky waste items out for collection

When you book your collection you will be advised of the day of collection or informed that a member of our team will contact you to confirm a collection day.

When placing out your bulky waste for pre-arranged collection, residents are asked to identify a suitable and safe collection point within the boundary of their property, but as near to the normal waste collection point as is practically possible. The Council can provide advice if you experience difficulty in placing out bulky items for collection.

The terms and conditions for the bulky waste collections can be found at bulky waste terms and conditions.

Other options for bulky items

There are many ways to recycle or reuse bulky items including charity shops, recycling companies, local adverts, freecycle, junk swaps and car boot sales. If you are able to transport items yourself, most towns have their own auction rooms, which are a good way of selling and buying second hand items.

You can take items free-of-charge to the Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRC’s) in Cornwall.

Alternatively, the following community projects will accept donations and offer a collection service to householders for useable goods. Donated furniture and household items are offered at affordable prices to people on low incomes.

  • RE:SOURCE Bodmin
  • Heartlands Furniture - covers Carrick, Kerrier, Restormal (Newquay and St Columb) Penwith - Penzance, Hayle and St Ives Tel 01209710422

Trade waste

Requests from business/ trading organisations to collect items will not be accepted by the bulky waste collection services. Please refer to our Business Waste pages for further information on how unwanted items can be disposed of or view the document Managing Waste A Guide for Business online.
