Changing sounds
Science / Year 5
How sounds are made and how these are heard by the ear. How
sound moves through differing materials. How different musical
instruments make sound.
Circuits and conductors
Science / Year 4
Looks at electricity and how it is conducted via circuits from a
power source, either batteries or mains electricity.
Forces
Science / Years 3/4/6
Looks at forces in general and attraction, repulsion, friction,
compression and stretching in particular. How magnets work and
their everyday use. How forces affect materials and movement,
including the effect of air and water.
Habitats
Science/ Year 4
Looks at how animals and other organisms relate to the
conditions of their habitat. Relationship of plants and animals
through the food chain and the interdependence of living
things.
Human body and keeping healthy
Science / Years 3/4/5
How we keep our body healthy through diet and exercise. Looking
at teeth, skeletons and muscles and how humans move. How exercise
affects the heart and muscles. The effects that drugs and medicines
have on the body. Comparisons with other animals.
Life cycles and adaptation
Science / Year 5/6
Looks at different stages in the life cycles of plants, animals
and humans.
The stages and growth of humans and animals.
The interdependence of plants and animals in the environment,
and the effect of differing habitats.
Materials
Science/ Year 3
Examines the range of natural and man-made materials. Understand
their characteristics. Compare uses of materials and what
alternatives are available
Plants and growth
Science / Year 3
Looks at plants as organisms and how they grow and develop.
Considers the range of plants including their use as food.
Rocks and volcanoes
Science / Year 3
Looks at volcanoes and their geological impact of
rocks and soils in the landscape. Includes the development of
volcanic and other types of rocks and soils.
Shadows and light
Science / Year 3
Looks at how shadows are formed from different sources of light.
Examining how the differing lengths of shadow reflect different
times of day.
Space
Science
Looks at space exploration and the astronomy of our solar system
with particular reference to Earth's near neighbours.
