Cornwall Council is responsible for setting the term dates for all community, voluntary-controlled and maintained nursery schools in its area.  Foundation, trust, voluntary-aided, free schools and academies have the freedom to set their own term dates - please contact the individual school to find out their term dates.

Term dates for 2014-15 for community and voluntary-controlled schools

To be confirmed.

The proposed 2014-15 term dates have been out for consultation with schools and interested parties and are now awaiting Member approval.  It is hoped that the finalised dates will be available here by mid May 2013.  Please bear in mind that these dates will be for community and voluntary-controlled schools only.  All other types of school (e.g. academies, trust schools and voluntary-aided schools) will be able to set their own dates, although it is hoped that there will continue to be consistency across Cornwall.  If you would like to find out what status each of the schools are, see the School Contact Details page.

If you have any queries or would like to request to be notified when the 2014/15 community and voluntary-controlled school dates are available, please email schoolorganisation@cornwall.gov.uk.

About term dates

Term dates for Local Authority maintained schools must be set with regard to the appropriate regulations which require schools to have at least 380 half-day sessions (190 days) in each school year.  This is consistent with the 195 days a year required by a teacher's Statutory Conditions of Service – the additional five days are for in-service training (INSET).

Cornwall Council consults schools and other relevant parties each time it sets term dates for community and voluntary-controlled schools.  The dates proposed are based on those recommended by the Cornwall Education Unions and those suggested by Plymouth City Council and Devon County Council.
