Following the Cornwall Council draft economic ‘green paper’
consultation, we have now produced the Council’s first ‘White
Paper’ on the economy, endorsed by Cabinet on 14 April 2010.
This document is the result of working with
key stakeholders and interested parties and individuals to do just
that. It sets out the economic priorities of Cornwall Council with
a purpose that we intend can be broadly supported by our partners.
In short, this is our ‘white paper’ for the immediate and medium
term future of Cornwall’s economy.
This should be seen as a statement of intent
with the Council providing leadership and mustering its resources
to support Cornwall through these challenging times. We have great
opportunities, not least our common enthusiasm for Cornwall.
To achieve these ambitions, we are committed
to working in partnership with all major partners and the community
in Cornwall, the South West and beyond.
Our vision is: A confident, resilient Cornwall that is a
leader in innovative business and low carbon
technologies
This is a bold, transformational framework
that challenges current perceptions of economic success, whilst
also building upon Cornwall’s strengths. This is not intended to be
a lengthy, process driven document, but rather a statement of the
council’s strategic intent linked to both established and
developing delivery mechanisms. Building upon the feedback received
from the green paper consultation process, this paper sets out the
context for change (why?), what is required to
achieve the above vision (what?) and sets out
delivery led by Cornwall Council with a focus on the next three
years (how?).
This paper sets out the economic ambition for
Cornwall Council, with a focus for activity over the next three
years.
