- SEN role clear in job descriptions
- Named SENCo
- SENCo and staff clear on SENCo role, including the
self-evaluation and monitoring of the school’s SEN provision
- Headteacher clear on SEN responsibilities
- Long, medium and short-term, school improvement plans refer to
SEN
- Evidence of staff and SENCo liaison
- SEN procedures clear – Record of Need and Graduated
Approach
- IEPs conform to Code of Practice requirements, are monitored
and reviewed and parents and pupils are involved
- IEPs match to statements and pupils’ needs
- Statements are reviewed annually, according to the Code of
Practice and parents and pupils involved
- Use is made of external agencies
- SEN policy matches recommendations of the Code of Practice
- Governing body has named governor for SEN
- Clear and transparent allocation of resources to SEN,
identified in the policy document
- Sufficient staff for SEN; deployment is effective and
efficient
- Suitable accommodation
- Adequate resources/how they are used
- Discuss progress of pupils, allocation of resources, according
to pupils’/priority need with headteacher and governing body
- Staff development on SEN is available for all staff to ensure
they are fully aware of their responsibilities
