The Environment, Planning and Economy Directorate is
committed to managing its operations to the highest performance
standards.
In order to achieve this, the Directorate has
set the following performance aims for 2009/10.
By Managing our Performance we
will;
- Document, implement, maintain and promote our integrated
performance and improvement policy, making it available to
employees, the public, stakeholders and other interested
parties;
- Anticipate, identify and manage customer and stakeholder
requirements, by actively engaging with, and listening to our
customers and stakeholders (through the compliment, comments and
complaints system, and other sources of feedback),
- Maintain directoral registration to ISO 9001:2000, ISO
14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:1999, Charter Mark and Investors in People,
whilst working towards registration to 18001:2007;
- Undertake regular performance assessments to ensure we secure
and continue to meet our service and performance objectives,
targets and legal compliance;
- Monitor performance objectives and targets set through annual
service/business and/or action plans;
- Be proactive in undertaking consultation and dialogue with the
public, stakeholders and employees on the Directorate's
Performance and act upon the findings.
In seeking Business Improvement we
will:
Undertake a range of business improvement
activities to facilitate continuous improvement in our working
relationships, systems and processes;
Identify the Directorate’s strategic risks and
ensure they are communicated via the strategic risk management
framework;
Identify efficiencies within current and
future working practices and ensure they are recorded via the
Directorate’s efficiency register.
By Promoting a Sustainable Environment
we will:
· Identify and
implement efficient, sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly
improvement schemes that are to the benefit of the public,
stakeholders and employees through supporting the Sustainable
Development Plan;
- Evaluate existing and proposed schemes for their sociological
and environmental impact in line with corporate aims and including
the prevention of pollution, commitment to long term sustainability
and the reduction in risk to staff / public safety;
- Monitor and support the Council’s Climate Change Strategy;
- Provide the framework to set, monitor and review Environmental
objectives and targets;
- Periodically review the Register of Environmental Aspects and
Impacts with senior managers, to ensure it remains relevant and up
to date;
- Keep our employee’s informed and raise awareness of all
sustainable environment issues through the development and
co-ordination of the Council’s Environmental Representative (EnRep)
network.
By Enhancing the Working Environment
we will:
- Provide the framework to set, monitor and review Occupational
Health and Safety objectives and targets;
- Ensure top management take ultimate responsibility for OH and S
by appointing a representative with defined roles and
responsibility for the OH and S management system according to the
OHSAS standard;
- Ensure that a commitment to the prevention of injury and
ill health is embedded within the directorate;
- Invest in staff development through the provision of training
and information to increase employee contribution to the
Directorate's objectives;
- Embed the emerging Equality and Diversity Framework into
existing, emerging and new strategies/policies and procedures (as
necessary) across the Directorate, taking account of Cornwall’s
communities in an appropriate manner.
These annual aims will be fulfilled through
the plans and strategies listed below and will be reviewed as
required to ensure that they remain relevant and appropriate to the
organisation.
