You can choose to pay your council tax in a way that suits
you:
Direct Debit
The easiest, most convenient, and cost efficient method of
paying your council tax for us and you is by Direct
Debit.
You are now able to set up and amend a
Direct Debit online by using Cornwall Councils online self
service area. You will need your council tax reference number (from
your bill), along with your bank account number and bank sort code
to set your Direct Debit up. Alternatively please call 0300 1234
171 and have your council tax reference number and bank details to
hand.
There are several advantages of Direct Debit over other payment
methods:
- Payments can be spread over 10 or 12 months and you can choose
a payment date of either 1st or 15th of each
month.
- Time is saved (there is no need to write and post
cheques).
- Queues are avoided.
- No more worries about forgetting to pay.
- No need to worry about carrying cash.
- No need to update the payment instruction each time the amount
or date changes.
- Easy to cancel.
- You will always remain in control and will always have advance
notice of any change to the amount to be debited.
- You have a money back guarantee with the Direct Debit Guarantee
Scheme.
The Direct Debit Guarantee
This guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies
that take part in the Direct Debit Scheme. The efficiency and
security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own
Bank/Building Society.
If the amounts to be paid or the payment date changes, Cornwall
Council will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account
being debited or as otherwise agreed.
If an error is made by Cornwall Council or your Bank/Building
Society, you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your
branch of the amount paid.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by contacting Cornwall
Council on 0300 1234 171, or sending an email
to revenues@cornwall.gov.uk, or
by contacting your Bank/Building Society who will in turn inform
Cornwall Council of your cancellation.
Debit/Credit Card: Online
You can also make payments online, 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Simply go to the
Online Council Tax Payment system and fill in the
information required. There is no extra charge to pay by credit
card.

You can make payment using a debit/credit card
over the phone by ringing Cornwall Council on 0300 1234 200. You
will need to supply your card details and your Council Tax
account reference number. There is no extra charge to pay by
credit card.

It should be noted that payments made using this method may take
