The Budget and Council Tax for the 2013-14 financial year was
set on 26 February 2013, for the period 1 April 2013 to
31 March 2014.
Two years ago we faced having to meet a 30% cut in
government funding and we took a bold step in planning a four year
budget that met the funding cuts challenge and also supports
and helps us work towards our vision and objectives identified in
our business plan.
Following the significant Government funding cuts over the last
few years, we developed an early financial plan. This is the third
year of the Council’s four year financial strategy which set out
how we will deal with the £170m reduction in Government funding. We
have been able to manage our resources without facing year on year
cuts to services. This has included a substantial amount of
reorganisation across the whole Council to deliver the same or
similar services in a different way and even allowed us to focus
investment in our priority areas.
