Look out for this distinctive blue logo in food businesses
throughout Cornwall and you’ll find among others, restaurants,
cafes and hotels where healthier eating and food safety and
standards matter.
The Cornwall Healthier Eating and Food
Safety (CHEFS) Award was launched at the Eden Project in October 2005. It
is awarded by the food
safety and trading standards officers at Cornwall Council
working in partnership with the Health Promotion Service
and the Healthy Weight Programme (both part of NHS
Cornwall). It has three levels, namely the prestigious gold, silver
and bronze and was recently re-launched at Trelissick
Gardens when over 100 food business representatives
attended.
Nearly 100 food businesses in Cornwall have achieved the CHEFS
award, each having to demonstrate the highest possible standards of
food hygiene, offer healthy options on their menus and source some
Cornish ingredients in order to qualify for it.
