The Record Office is able to supply copies of many
documents held in its care. To obtain copies it is necessary to
complete the relevant order form and pay the appropriate
charge.
Each form includes a copyright agreement, guidance notes and
details of charges.
Please read the guidance notes on the relevant form before
completing your order. Forms must be signed and returned to the
Record Office with full details of the items to be copied. If you
are unsure of the full details required, such as dates or parish,
Cornwall Record Office offers a Research Service.
Photocopies
Please use the Photocopy
Order Form
for:
- Parish register entries
- Probate records
- All other documents, except types of records listed under
digital copies only (see below)
Certified copies
Please use the Certified
Copy Order Form for certified copies of Baptism, Marriage and
Burial records. These are signed transcripts of the original entry
usually requested for legal purposes.
Digital copies only
Certain records are not possible to photocopy. In these
circumstances a digital copy may be provided. However, the Record
Office has limited facilities to take digital images of documents
and therefore this service is restricted to the following
items:
- Information held in bound volumes (excluding parish
registers)
- Extract from an item which is too large for photocopying, for
example a particular area on a map
- Items which are too fragile to be photocopied
If you require a copy of an item which falls in to any of the
above categories please contact the office to obtain a digital copy
order form.
Credit/debit card payment
If you wish to pay by credit/debit card please complete the
separate Credit/Debit
Card Mandate Form and enclose it with the order form. If you
wish to pay by cheque (payable to "Cornwall Council"), you will be
contacted with the exact payment required after your request has
been processed. Please note that we are only able to accept payment
in Sterling.
A note on Family History:
The Record Office can only provide copies of entries from the
parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials. We have no
access to post-1837 civil registration registers of births, deaths
and marriages which are available through Cornwall
Registration Service.
A note about Quarter Session records:
The Quarter Session record books (references QS/1/1-50) are in
bound volumes and cannot be photocopied. The original volumes of
QS/1/1-QS/1/12 do not contain any further information than is
available on the Access to Archives website.
