Cornwall Biodiversity Improvement Grant (BIG)
The Living Environment Service is responsible for the conservation, enhancement and promotion of the natural environment throughout Cornwall and all aspects of access relating to the countryside, recreation, the management of amenity land, nature reserves and heritage sites. Its main functions are:
- Managing 6,500 Footpaths, Bridleways and Byways (totalling over 4,300 Km);
- Managing County Parks, Amenity Sites & over 200 km of Multi-Use and Cycle Trails, including off road sections of the National Cycle Network in Cornwall;
- Managing and improving the South West Coast Path National Trail in Cornwall;
- Advising the County Council, and partner organisations, on all matters relating to Cornwall's natural environment including management, policy and strategy;
- Developing and delivering individual projects and programmes which contribute to nature conservation, often working in close partnership with Government Agencies, international partners and local community groups;
- Delivery of Headline Actions in Cornwall's Community Strategy relating to biodiversity and the natural environment.
