Candidates should note an important change in the law since the last full council elections in 2013.

Withdrawal of nominations now closes at the same time as receipt of nominations – potential candidates cannot put themselves forward for multiple parish/town wards within the same parish council and then withdraw from all but one of them once the nominations have closed.

If a candidate is still nominated for more than 1 ward at the close of nominations then all nominations will be deemed to have been withdrawn.

The last full parish and town council elections took place on 2 May 2013.  More information is available on the Cornwall council and parish and town council elections 2013 pages.

At those elections, 33 parishes within Cornwall had changes made to their parish or town wards or had such wards created for the first time. These changes were the result of the Boundary Committee for England recommendations.

Details of the parish and town councils affected can be found in the Cornwall (Electoral Changes) Order 2011.

Full elections of Parish and Town Councillors were originally due to be held in 2011, but were postponed until 2013 by the Cornwall (Structural Change) Order 2008, which provided for the creation of the Cornwall Council Unitary Authority.

There are currently 213 parishes in Cornwall.
