Councillor Mary May represents Penryn West Division of Cornwall Council. Having lived in Penryn for over 45 years she has had the distinguished honour of being Mayor of the Town of Penryn on 6 occasions.

Whilst serving on the former Carrick District Council she also held the office of Vice Chairman. Since elected to Cornwall Council she has served as Vice Chairman of the Strategic Planning committee and for the last two years has been Vice Chairman of the Council.

In her local community she organises an older person’s club, the Annual Town Fair and Penryn Week; she is secretary of the Royal British Legion Penryn Branch and for many years she has served on both Infant and Junior School as governor and Chairman. For the last 13 years of her working life she was a Bereavement Officer at Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust.

On her election Councillor May said I can’t begin to say how proud and privileged I am to be Chairman of Cornwall Council.  I look forward to meeting people the length and breadth of the Duchy and, during my term as Chairman, to be to host and welcome representatives from all parts of the community at the Council.”

Councillor Hilary Frank represents Saltash South Division of Cornwall Council.  She recently served at the Mayor of Saltash. She lives in Saltash with her husband and two daughters.  Councillor Frank is well travelled and when not on her council duties she works as a Japanese translator and has recently translated for the world cup rugby draw in Japan.

The Chairman is elected by the Council each May and serves for 12 months.

They are the civic and ceremonial head of the Authority and represent Cornwall Council at a variety of events and functions in a non-political role. The Chairman promotes the interest and the reputation of the Duchy acting as an ambassador for Cornwall.

The Chairman also presides over meetings of Full Council to ensure that its’ business is carried out fairly and efficiently and to ensure that the meeting is conducted in accordance with the Constitution. The Chairman promotes public involvement in the Council’s activities and promotes the Council’s corporate strategy.

Please include details of your event including the date, venue and expected time of arrival. Please say if there is something in particular you would like the Chairman to do, such as present certificates, make a speech or draw a raffle.  It is helpful if someone can meet the Chairman on arrival. It would be very useful if a parking place can be reserved.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall (which for ceremonial purposes includes the Isles of Scilly) is The Queen's representative and, if attending an event, takes precedence over all local dignitaries. If not in attendance, the Chairman of Cornwall Council has precedence over all visiting dignitaries including Town Mayors but not the High Sheriff of Cornwall if they are present.
