Visit the Cornish Studies Library

You are welcome to visit the Cornish Studies Library (CSL) to browse the books, newspapers, journals and photographs in our care. No membership is required and the service is free.

  • Monday: 10am-5pm
  • Tuesday: 10am-5pm
  • Wednesday: Closed
  • Thursday: 10am-5pm
  • Friday: 10am-5pm
  • Saturday: 10am-1pm

You do not need to make an appointment to use the CSL. However, if you are making a special journey we do advise you to give us a call in advance to ensure the resources you require will be available when you visit. You do not need to pre-order any of the items in our collection. However, you might like to use the online catalogues to check what we hold before your visit.

The CSL offers ground floor access to:

  • Study tables for those wishing to read books and other printed items, some with power points for laptops
  • A browsing area for those who simply wish to read a book or magazine or chat about their research
  • Microfilm readers for viewing newspapers, censuses, and other records
  • Microfilm reader-printers (printing A3 or A4)
  • Audio-visual work stations
  • PCs with access to the 'People's Network'

The CSL can also provide:

  • Photocopies from paper sources
  • Photocopies of photographic prints
  • Photocopies from microfilm and microfiche
  • Photographic copies of illustrations in its collections
  • Scanning facilities

Please note: reproductions are subject to copyright regulations and will incur a charge.

Disabled access is via the main entrance and there is also an accessible toilet.

The CSL is located in the Cornwall Centre on Alma Place in central Redruth. It is close to local bus and rail links and there is a public car park behind.
